About Kronika

CCA Kronika, Bytom CCA Kronika, Bytom

Kronika is a Centre for Contemporary Art located in the heart of the industrial city of Bytom, Upper Silesia. It is devoted to exploring the interconnections between contemporary art theory and activity and music, politics and social sciences, education, film, theatre, alternative tourism, design and architecture. Kronika is a place of knowledge production. The Kronika Gallery was established in 1991. In 2006, after restructuring and major refurbishment, CCA Kronika enters a new phase of activity.

The Kronika's programme is implemented through exhibitions, public space projects, trips, experimental musical cycles, art publications, workshops, discussions, lectures, popularization of art and educational activity for kids. Moreover, Kronika coordinates mobile grants for artists and curators, who spend a few weeks in Upper Silesia, developing projects dealing with the specific character as well as current social and cultural issues of the region.
The character of the Kronika reflects the tactics of the institution searching for a new, flexible approach, taking advantage of the multidisciplinary opportunities available.

CCA Kronika cooperates with artists, curators and art centres in Poland as well as abroad, including Kunstverein in Wolfsburg, Foksal Gallery Foundation in Warsaw, Press to Exit Project Space in Skopje, Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, the postgraduate Curator Centre at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow, thealit Frauen.Kultur.Labor in Bremen, Ars Cameralis Silesiae Superioris, Krytyka Polityczna, Pro Helvetia, DAAD Berliner Künstlerprogramm.
